UNIX and Internet Providers

The Computer Science Department does not endorse or recommend any third-party UNIX or Internet system providers. The student has many alternatives in the Wichita area. Some of these providers supply:

• TCP/IP access - this includes SLIP/PPP/CSLIP. This allows the student to access the Internet from at home.

• UNIX Shell access - this allows the user to dial into a system that has UNIX online (similar to the CS Dept. UNIX network).

• EMAIL access - this allows the user to send/receive electronic mail from the user's home PC or MacIntosh (using popular PC/Macintosh software).

• Other services- several providers have other online services as well.

Note that if you plan on running LINUX and using LINUX to surf the web, be sure to find an ISP that is LINUX-friendly. I have heard that some of the smaller ISPs in the area are LINUX-friendly.
