MS-DOS Users Dialup Information
Introduction:
MS-DOS users have two options for dialing in. One of these is to get
an Internet Service Provider. Click here to
go to our providers page. I used DOS with an add-in TCP/IP software
package years ago, but this sofware is getting hard to find. DOS can
be made to work with certain Ethernet cards and TCP/IP, if you are
very good at DOS.
In order to use our free modem services, you need to use a TERMINAL
EMULATOR WITH VT100 Settings to dial our modem pool. Here
are some that I know of (note: DOS software is hard to come by now,
so you may need to look at used software sources for some of these) :
- Kermit for DOS.
This package is reported to work, although it is a no-frills
emulator. You can get this by clicking here.
- Procomm for DOS. This package works great, but is no longer in
production. You might find it on an old shareware site somewhere.
- Various shareware packages. There is a large set of shareware
available for DOS. A shareware version of PROCOMM is available from
TWSUBBS (call the Social Science Research Lab at WSU for more
details). The shareware PROCOMM is very good, just somewhat
outdated. There are many other shareware packages that also work
fine. I used PROCOMM(shareware) for years before getting PROCOMM+ for
DOS. Goto
www.shareware.com
for more shareware alternatives.
Look at the Ask The System Manager
Modem Page for general instructions for dial-in.
