Yurijan Pancamasyah(2091) CS898T - Wireless/ Mobile Communication Instructor: Dr. Chin-Chih Chang Research Project Proporsal Topic: ------ An overview of Wireless ATM (WATM) Scope: ------ Wireless LAN has been growing rapidly in the last decade. Nowaday, laptop, cellular phone, PDA and pagers are very popular. Many systems have been developed to provide different services, such as, Personal Communications Service (PCS), Portable Telephone Systems, and Satellite Communications System. Normally, these services are not QoS (Quality of Services) guarantee, so they are not suitable for the fast growing multimedia applications. ATM has been successfully implemented in a wired networking environment to provide a strong QOS guarantee along with the high speed data transfer capability. With these two main features, the wireless ATM is build on top of ATM to meet the demand of fast data transfer over the wireless LAN and the QOS guarantee. Goal: ----- Introduction to ATM and Wireless ATM Standardization of Wireless ATM Wireless ATM architecture Handover Location Management QOS control References: ----------- Stephen F.
