Name: Steve Todd Course: CS 898T Date: 2/17/04 Subject: Research Paper Proposal Topic: An Overview of Wireless/Mobile File Systems Major Goals: 1. Present characteristics which are unique to wireless/mobile file systems and how they are dealt with within wireless/mobile applications. 2. Present an example of such a system: Andrew File System/Coda. Scope: Presentation of characteristics such as consistency, replication, cache, availability, transparency, etc. and how wireless/mobile file systems deal with them. Emphasis will be on mobile applications since this class is limited in scope to mobile and wireless communication systems. An example of a commonly-used system used in mobile applications, Coda, will be presented in an overview fashion. This presentation will cover those unique characteristics of wireless/mobile networks in regards to dealing with shared files. References: 1. Braam, Peter J. The Coda Distributed File System.
