Research Paper Proposal Submitted by: Filipos Abraham Class: CS 898T Instructor: Dr. Chang Date Due: 04/28/04 - 05/10/04 1. Topic: Security in the Wireless Network 2. Major Goals: - To describe the underlying requirements for wireless networks - To identify what are vulnerabilities in entrée points? - To describe what are the suitable encryption technologies to reduce outflow of clear text information. 3. Scope: Wireless local area networks are here to stay! Along with it comes a whole new set of security concerns, obviously wireless network is more and more installed by businesses and government consumer and because of the lack of restrictions wireless communications and the decreasing costs of the hardware and software technology and existing security methods for preserving the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of wireless communications are disputable. However, leaving wireless communication open to several type of attacks does not leave the resources safer and secure. Some finding have shown that even the new standards are imperfect, allowing attackers to commit both active as well as passive attacks, This paper.s center of attention is on the description and analysis of the wireless network standards.
