PROJECT PROPOSAL CS898T Submitted by SRIKAR REDDY YERUVA TOPIC: How to Apply SIP and H323 in Mobile and Wireless Networks. Major Goals: Wireless networking is technology which has gained a lot of popularity in these recent years. Wireless technology was introduced to achieve portability and improve comfort. This made people switch to wireless technology which is cheaper and easier to install. Wireless technology is going to rule the market in the coming future. But it has disadvantages too. This is where I wanted to do research to find out the problems and the reason for these problems. One of the greatest inventor till today was Alexander graham bell. Whose wonderful invention was Telephone. This was a powerful device and brought revolution in communication industry. people could talk from any where to anywhere in the world. This technology, when graham bell invented was a piece of mastery and this conventional telephony was connection oriented and is supposed to be the best ways to communicate even till date. Then comes the Internet which is a connectionless service and can do many more wonders than the traditional telephony. A group of bright people thought may be this could be an opportunity to club these two technology together and why don't we transfer voice over ip. That's where the name came from VOIP (voice over ip). This is the latest technology which could make wonders if it is successful. It's not easy to implement this as internet would not give a very high throughput as the traditional telephony. This is the time the protocols get into picture . The two major protocols which were used and are used to connecting the calls and transfer voice over internet technology are: 1. SIP 2. H.323 Goal of my project is to do some research on the voip (voice over Internet protocol). I wanted to check the level of compatibility VOIP has with the most upcoming but traditional wireless technology. Comparing the two protocols in this research would enhance my knowledge in these two protocols and even to understand what makes SIP work better than H.323 in VOIP technology. There are some applications where H.323 could be preferred instead of sip which is been widely used today . My goal would be to look into these APPLICATION S where these two protocols are used, when and where are these two protocols used and how good are they for wireless networking. Scope: 1. Comparing, these two protocols and conduct a survey to check, which one works best. 2. What are the problems with wireless technology and VOIP technology. 3. Are there any protocols which could work better than these in wireless scenarios. scope of this research is very high and extending. This project would definitely give us an idea about the upcoming technologies and protocols. These are the references I would probably be using for my research and would definitely use more than this .
