Course Description
The goal of this
course is to provide students with an understanding of the principles,
techniques, and practice in the design and implementation of distributed
systems, with a particular focus on software components of distributed
computing systems. It aims to go beyond
purely conceptual foundations by including an extensive programming project
using your favorite language. However, this course will no teach you how
to write applications using CORBA or web pages with ASP or JSP.
After completing
this course you will be able to: 1)
Explain what a distributed system is, why you would design a system as a
distributed system, and what the desired properties of such systems are; 2) Build distributed
system software by applying distributed techniques and principles learned in
this course.

Academic Honesty and other Departmental Policies
A standard of honesty, fairly applied to all students, is
essential to a learning environment. Students abridging
a standard of honesty
must accept the consequences; penalties are assessed by appropriate classroom
instructors
or other designated people. Serious cases may
result in discipline at the college or University level and may
result in suspension or dismissal. Dismissal from
a college for academic dishonesty constitutes
dismissal from
the University.
The departmental policies, regarding make-up exam,
incomplete and withdrawal, can be obtained at http://www.cs.wichita.edu/resources/policies.shtml.
